Clementina Lopez is a sister who lives in La Paz, Honduras. Due to certain circumstances of life, Clementina was left with the responsibility of raising her five grandchildren. Yet, she had only a tiny income from selling tortillas out of her house. She had no job skills and no savings to start a business. Nevertheless, with 60 lempiras (about $3.30), she bought a box of avocados and sold them on the downtown sidewalk.

After selling them all, she felt quite encouraged. So she used her profits to buy more avocados, and she came back the next day with twice as many avocados. Every day she sold a little more and started adding other products. Little by little her business grew until she saw the need to look for a more permanent place to sell her produce. She had outgrown the small space on the sidewalk, and she was receiving complaints from the store she was in front of. The storekeeper said she was taking too much of the sidewalk and hurting his sales.

Recently, the Society of the Good Shepherd has given Clementina a small loan that has enabled her to buy other kinds of fruits and vegetables to add to her growing inventory. In addition to the produce she buys locally, Clementina has now started bringing in products from nearby communities. She has been able to find another sidewalk spot downtown that has not brought any complaints from business owners.

Clementina is very grateful to God and the Society for all the help she has received, both economically and spiritually. She told us she really enjoys the Society’s weekly meetings and has learned so much from the devotionals and financial lessons that the local directors teach all of the loan beneficiaries.
May God bless you.
