Martha Delcid gave her life to Christ in January of 2000, after attending a Sunday School class. From that point on, she felt the strong need to dedicate her life entirely to His service. She took things very seriously and served in her congregation in any way she could for many years. She started as an assistant Sunday School teacher, then she was given the op-portunity to participate in other ministries as well. She eventually became a teacher and su-pervisor of children’s Sunday School teachers. She also got the chance to study at the Bible Institute to become a better teacher. Later, she started teaching teenagers and leading Bible studies for women.

At that point, she was serving in her congregation on a full-time schedule. She felt really good dedicating all of her time to God’s service. But in 2010 she became seriously ill. When she recovered from her illness, she had to look for a better job to pay for all her medical treatments. That was life changing for her because after so many years, she had to drop all of her responsibilities at church. Her job did not allow her to do much more than occa-sionally attend church, and that made her very uncomfortable.

She started to pray for a different job or a business that would allow her to devote most of her life to Christ’s work. Finally, she decided on a business with which she was acquainted through her family. Her mother, sister and other family members own small stores along-side the main highway that passes through Siguatepeque. This highway connects the most important cities of Honduras, thus making it a great place to sell souvenirs to national and international tourists that travel on that highway.

Through her sister, Martha learned about the ministry of the Society of the Good Shep-herd. The Society approved her loan application, and she was able to open her highway souvenir store in August of 2011. She started off by offering just a few items, but God has blessed her business and her souvenir shop has continued to grow since then.

Martha has been part of our group of beneficiaries for almost a year now and has demon-strated a great sense of responsibility. Now that she has a flexible schedule, Martha has kept true to her promise to God to devote more time to His service. She is again involved in many ministries in her congregation, including doing what she loves most—teaching children and other women. She has also been faithful in making her loans payments regularly and attending all of the Society’s meetings.

Martha has shared with us her deep gratitude to God and to everyone involved in the Soci-ety’s ministry for all the help she has received. She has some specific prayer requests we would like to share with our readers. First of all, pray that God will continue to strengthen her spiritual life and that He will help her and give her wisdom in everything she does. Also pray for her business: that God will continue to bless it and that she may soon have her mi-croloan completely paid off. Her final prayer request is for her working environment. She is very concerned because a gang of teenagers have decided to make the alley behind her store their meeting place. Nancy Barahona.
