Sarita Suporo
February, 2013

Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." Matt. 25:40

Sarita Suporo is a fourteen-year-old Honduran girl. She will be fifteen years old on April 15, 2013—if she lives that long. And she may not.

Sarita is the only daughter of Jose and Myra Suporo. She has three brothers: Brian (age 3), Jose Manuel (age 5), and Edwin (age 12). When Sarita was two days old, she came down with a high fever and began having seizures. A local doctor in Siguatepeque was able to save her life, but the illness left Sarita blind.

Sarita’s father, Jose, works as a tenant farmer, earning between $6.00 and $7.00 a day. Their twelve-year-old son also works to help support the family, but he earns far less. Because of her family’s dire poverty, Sarita has not been able to get the proper medical care and therapy she has needed over the years. For some reason, recently she was not drinking sufficient water each day. As a result, her kidneys failed, and she has been rushed to the Children’s Hospital in the capital, Tegucigalpa. At the hospital, Sarita is now receiving dialysis.

The doctors at the hospital have also discovered that because of malnutrition, Sarita suffers from osteoporosis and spinal degeneration, among other problems. Whether she will live to her next birthday is uncertain. So please pray for her, that God will spare her life and enable her body to recover.

Also pray that we can figure out a way to help Sarita’s parents—and millions like them—to climb out of dire poverty. Our microloan ministry works for people who live in a town or city, or along a major highway. But we have had no success with people like Sarita’s parents who live out in rural areas.

So please pray for wisdom, that God would show us a way to help people like Jose and Myra Suporo and their children on a permanent basis. Or, if God gives you any insights on this, please pass them on to us. In the meantime, please pray for Sarita and her family. We will update you on her situation in future newsletters. David Bercot
