Thomas A Kempis (1380-1471) was a serene and devoted man of God. He walked in the Lord's presence and discovered priceless steps to becoming more like Christ daily. His spiritual wisdom convinced him of man’s complete dependence on God’s love.
Kempis spent nearly his entire life in a spiritual community, the Brethren of Common Life. Yet, the Imitation of Christ has guided and inspired tens of thousands of Christians who have never lived in such a spiritual community. This is because of Kempis’ deep and burning love of God, his deep knowledge of the Bible and the early Christian writers, and his compassionate understanding of human weaknesses and needs.
It would be hard to estimate the profound influence his insightful books has exercised through the Christian church for over 500 years.
