What the Early Christians Believed About The Lord’s Prayer. One day, Jesus’ disciples came to Him, asking, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” In response, Jesus gave His disciples a brief prayer, that has come to be known as the “Lord’s prayer.” Although this prayer comes from the highest authority possible, very few Christians ever pray this prayer (outside of the liturgical churches). In fact, very few Christians even use it as a model for their prayers.
But did Jesus really intend for His prayer to be ignored? In this message, Bercot discusses what the early church believed about the Lord’s prayer and how they used it. He also goes through each phrase of the prayer and explains what significance the early Christians saw in that phrase.

When I was a child I memorized The Lord’s Prayer. I got stickers and a prize when I had it done. I could recite it like any other poem or song. But I didn’t really think what it meant to me today. David Bercot brings out how the Early Christian viewed it and how it should be part of our daily life. It has changed our church’s prayer meeting and I hope it changes yours. After all shouldn’t Christ know exactly how to pray?
