Audio: Jesus and the Father

What the Early Christians Believed About Jesus and the Father

From time to time, most of us have Jehovah’s Witnesses call at our doors. Perhaps you know how to box them into a corner and “win” an argument with them. But do you know of any JWs who have ever been helped by that? I doubt it. He or she remains a JW.

This audio messages takes an entirely different approach. It is specifically designed to give away to JWs who call at your door. But its purpose is not to win an argument. Its purpose is to help JWs come to a proper understanding of the divinity of Christ—even though they will probably remain JWs. As a former JW, I have seen that most JWs have no problem accepting the church’s historic teaching on Christ’s divinity—once it’s correctly explained to them in love. The audio message comes with instructions on how to present it to a JW. David Bercot

Audio: John Wesley – “The Error of Imputed Righteousness” and “How Should Christians Dress”

In this audio message, David Bercot reads two of John Wesley’s works: The Error of Imputed Righteousness and How Christians Should Dress. Wesley strongly opposed the teaching that Christ’s blood does not actually deliver us from sin, but rather simply covers us so that we continue to live in sin. He also strongly preached that if we have truly been born again, it should be reflected in how we dress.

Audio: Kingdom Parables of Jesus

David Bercot. “What the Early Christians Believed About the Kingdom Parables of Jesus.” The theme of most of Jesus’ parables was the kingdom of God. In fact, these parables contain many of the essential truths about the kingdom. Yet, because they don’t fit the theology of most churches, Jesus’ kingdom parables have been explained away over the centuries or reinterpreted to fit changing doctrines.

Audio: Lessons God Has Taught Me

David Bercot. Growing up a Jehovah’s Witness, David Bercot has had a long, winding pilgrimage in finding and serving Christ. Yet, in many respects, he would not have wanted it any other way. The reason is that God has taught David so many things on his journey—things you don’t learn from books and universities. In this audio message, David talks about some of the key lessons he has learned from God about people, churches, and the precious gift that God have given us: the Bible.

Audio: Let Go & The Royal Way of the Cross

Francois Fenelon was a bishop in France during the late 17th century. He eventually became the spiritual advisor of a small, but committed, number of men and women at the Court of Louis XIV, including the king himself and Madame Guyon. During his life, Fenelon blessed hundreds through his rare insight into how God deals with each of us on our individual spiritual pilgrimages.

Centuries after his death, many of his letters were collected together and published under the titles of “Let Go” and the “Royal Way of the Cross.” We have combined condensed versions of these two works together (eliminating letters with similar messages) in an audio version.

Audio: Living in the Kingdom Now

John D. Martin. The kingdom of God is a place where we live now — as well as in eternity. Jesus told us to seek first the kingdom of God, not to seek first our personal salvation. Yet, too many Christians make their own personal salvation the main goal in life. They don’t seek first the kingdom, for they know so little about it. Martin explains that the kingdom of God is the entire realm in which God’s will is fulfilled. Humans were designed and made for the kingdom of God. When we seek the kingdom first, we will find salvation as well.

Audio: Lollards

The Lollards grew out of the reform movement of John Wycliffe. They (not Wycliffe) translated the first English Bible, and they turned 14th century England upside down with their preaching and kingdom witness. Although persecuted, they continued as an underground movement right up to the Reformation.

Audio: Lord’s Prayer

What the Early Christians Believed About The Lord’s Prayer. One day, Jesus’ disciples came to Him, asking, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” In response, Jesus gave His disciples a brief prayer, that has come to be known as the “Lord’s prayer.” Although this prayer comes from the highest authority possible, very few Christians ever pray this prayer (outside of the liturgical churches). In fact, very few Christians even use it as a model for their prayers.

But did Jesus really intend for His prayer to be ignored? In this message, Bercot discusses what the early church believed about the Lord’s prayer and how they used it. He also goes through each phrase of the prayer and explains what significance the early Christians saw in that phrase.

Audio: Millennium and Rapture

What The Early Christians Believed About the Millennium and Rapture. Will Christ literally reign on earth for 1000 years? Were the early Christians pre-millennialists, post-millennialists, or amillennialists—or none of the above? Did they believe in a literal rapture—and if so, did they think the rapture would occur “pre-trib,” “mid-trib,” or “post-trib”?

Audio: Modest Dress and Cosmetics

Peter wrote, “Do not let your adornment be outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on apparel—rather let it be the hidden person of the heart.” But just how literally did the early Christians take that apostolic commandment? Bercot quotes extensively from Scripture and the early Christian writings to answer that question. A challenging message!
